Comment #5 on issue 979 by Carl.D.Sorensen: waf build system
http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=979
Two items:
1) Thomas is unconvinced. In his mind this is a technical limitation, not
a yet-to-be-implemented feature.
In his words, "Copying files around usually indicates a poorly designed
compiler or a
badly-designed compilation rule. Please re-think the build
transformations and read the book a few more times."
I'm unable to mount a defense of our intended use of waf to copy files from
srcdir to blddir, because I don't
understand the issues. I've read the thread on -devel
(http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gnu.lilypond.devel/25259),
I've grepped through dev/waf for wscript, with no success.
I can't find any waf scripts in dev/waf, so I can't learn what has been
tried and failes.
I can't grok the current build system, so I don't even know what we're
trying to do.
If you could give me a short description as to what we need to copy, then
perhaps I can figure out
how to explain the why. Or alternatively, if you could point me to the
code that fails, which I can't seem to
find.
Thanks,
Carl
