I will start working on this issue and issue 427 very soon.

My original patch is still posted here:

However, my approach was wrong, as Han-Wen noted, so I will need to start  
over.

Attached is what the image from comment 4 looks like with my old patch,  
just to give
an idea of what a solution to these bugs *might* look like.

The slur formatting doesn't look ideal, but I hope to eventually understand  
the code
well enough to make slurs behave well *and* look beautiful by default when  
they are
broken across line breaks.
