lilypond 2.9.28 - not tested in other versions
Using \markup \note I came up with a small surprise:
The result of (basically)
g2 a4
^\markup { 2-3: { \note #"2" #1.0 } }
_\markup { 2-3: { \note #"2" #0.5 } }
a4 b1
g2 a4
^\markup { 2-3: { \note #"2" #-0.75 } }
_\markup { 2-3: { \note #"2" #0.25 } }
a4 b1
as shown in the attached markup-note-test.png
seems to indicate that only stemlenght #1.0 places the the stem in the
intended horizontal position in regard to the notehead.
Scaling the lenght of stem affects the horizontal offset.
