Details:

There is a minor problem that causes a compilation error when building the
recent SVN version of Kawa (~ 5:00pm EDT 2016-10-23).

gnu/kawa/slib/swing.scm refers to the old name picture-jpanel

but

kawa/lib/kawa/swing.scm has the new name picture->jpanel.

Fixing the name in the first file give successful compilation (including 'make
check').
