In the meantime, I installed Debian GNU/Hurd with a patched Linux/star a
couple of times and have not experienced any problems.
On the other hand, I've noticed one thing while running Linux some days
ago. When I copy stuff from some Linux partition to my Hurd
installation, gnu.author gets set. When I copy it back, I get a warning.
Not sure whether this is expected or an error on my side, though:
dagobert~$ getfattr -d -e hex -m "gnu.*" packages
dagobert~$ cp packages /gnu/tmp/
dagobert~$ getfattr -d -e hex -m "gnu.*" /gnu/tmp/packages
getfattr: Removing leading '/' from absolute path names
# file: gnu/tmp/packages
gnu.author=0x00000000
dagobert~$ cp /gnu/tmp/packages packages_
cp: setting attribute `gnu.author' for `packages_':
Operation not supported
/gnu is my GNU/Hurd partition. My UID is 1000. Somewhat related seems to
be that I get a lot of warnings/errors from star when I try to extract
my gnu-latest.tar.gz. Star seemingly wants to set gnu.author for a lot
of files (I think those that got modified while running GNU/Hurd, before
I generated the tarball), but fails. I can't remember the exact error
here, but I could reproduce it if needed.
