Well, sure.  But note that a goal of a collective is to present a
*single* machine appearance.  So it's not like a conventional
distributed filesystem arrangement.  We aren't talking AFS on / here.

My thoughts have generally been that / would probably be a union, but
still, some machine has to be responsible for the official list of
what's in that union, and there needs to be some kind of replication
so that things don't totally hang if that machine reboots.
