It's likely I misread the code. I should have said "it seems to not make
use of it" (in other words: I didn't see how it uses it). Sorry.
Thanks for all your information. I have by now read more of Stevens, and
the pieces start to fall together slowly. ;) I will probably have another
set of questions when I pondered your reply and the code a bit more.
