Something similar has already been attempted, try looking for memfs
in the mailing list archives (both bug-hurd and debian-hurd).

Right now most popular filesystems are supported (possibly with bugs).
The ones that are missing are the new journaling filesystems that have
started kreeping up everywhere like xfs, jfs, ext3, reiserfs. If you
feel up to the taks of implementing them, go right ahead.

This CThreads is deprecated. Instead we should work on eliminating the
glibc dependencies on CThreads in favor of pthreads, even if only in a
separate branch.

First make sure you have a workig hurd system, you can find info about that
at http://www.debian.org/ports/hurd. Read what you can of the Hurd info
manual. And visit http://www.machdocs.org/ for documentation about Mach
interfaces and internals.
