This is almost an old foe. Wrote about it various time; but nobody seems to know why. And it has nothing to do with Gentoo, btw., I get it on Debian here and there. And it tends to change its appearance. At times it is the location of the splashimage; another box runs fine; a third one doesn't like it within the auto kernel update, the fourth reads it from behind '#', and the fifth doesn't want a single occurrence at all.Follow-up Comment #1, bug #15120 (project grub): I have the same problem with my gentoo installation (same grub version). The problem can be solved by removing the splashimage entry from your grub.conf file. I am pretty sure i pointed to the correct location for the splashimage but it doesnt show up (it doesnt even give an error), the only thing i see is a blinking cursor...
Simple to resolve: throw away the splashimage and all its entries. I know, that's another way of 'works for me'.On this forum there are people with the same problem, but its not clear if all of them could resolve it:
Life is like that, sometimes. Uwe
