grub 0.94 -> minicom does not display properly

Hi

I just upgraded to grub-0.94.  Now the menu and console does not display 
 right.  I get

8H- 8H- 8H-
and the cursor stays at the top of the screen printing garbage.

I know the buad is correct because when I enter keys it works.
I know it is a terminfo problem.  But minicom states it is vt102 
compatible, and grub states it is vt100 compatiable.

I have compiled grub with both ncursors on and off

grub 0.93 works.

How do I fix this problem so I can have a screen that makes sense?
