corrections to stage 1

Hi,

This seems to be a bad start for me, because I missed to submit a file in my
first patch, and a comment got lost in my second. Hopefully nobody was
fooled by now. This time a complete submission of patch 1+2 is appended, tested
and verified on my box. Other corrections still pending.

Patch 1 and 2 deal with the interface BIOS loader/chainloader and stage 1,
getting rid of some assumptions GRUB stage 1 implicitely makes.
