There's no 8.0 version of Linux, the kernel (the latest version is pre-2.6.0).
You can find out which version of Linux you're running with "uname -r" command.
If you're using a distribution of the GNU/Linux OS that uses GRUB as default
bootloader and installed from scratch, the problem is probably a wrong
configuration in the distribution. You should contact them to report this
problem.
Asides from this, reinstalling GRUB into your MBR will probably solve the
problem as someone else just pointed.
