Silly question about `printf'

Hello,

This is probably a silly question, but I can't find the answer.

The `printf' function is not part of the core C, but part of the
standard libraries, which are OS dependent. Thus, stage2 could not
use it, unless this is redefined somewhere.

But if I have found the definition of `printf' in kernel.c, I was unable
to find where `printf' was defined for stage2 (unless I have missed some
define or else which do include it only for the grub shell under Unix).

Thanks in advance for the tip, and sorry if the answer is obvious...
