Why should users of distribution built by someone else be
forced to install a POSIX shell to use grep/fgrep/egrep?

It is exactly an issue for anyone using MinGW, who use the
GNU utilities without using a POSIX shell.

No, it causes trouble for people who want to USE grep.

Pardon me, but this is really taking a couldn't-care-less attitude.

Please reconsider the trivial revert and restoration of the
separate binaries.
