$ grep --help | grep FIFO
-D, --devices=ACTION how to handle devices, FIFOs and sockets
Unfortunately in the released greps '--devices-skip' doesn't work,
but it has been repaired in CVS. You can build that, or wait for
grep-2.5.2 to be released.
