Spyblock isn't persay blocking anything on icecat and I don't know why.
What filters do you have set on it?
I have the same issue.

I'm using Arch Linux, thus the version of icecat from AUR [1], which is the current (31.8.0-1) one, but compiled with a patch which fixes some nulltpr errors of gcc5.1 and later. I confirmed that the prebuilt version from your website works fine, so this is most probably the reason. According to the packager [2], this patch is probably also the reason for the red loading wheel being static.

So since this is obviously related to the patch respectively the newer version of gcc, I don't expect this to be fixed before you use gcc5.1+ on your own, but maybe this can be some kind of warning - so you know what might fail respectively be an issue.

Some additional info:

The addon seems to not work completely.
I can get to its general Preferences (about:addons), but clicking on filter preferences triggers nothing. Furthermore the icon does not show up, neither in the statusbar nor in the toolbar, regardless the relevant options being checked.
I have run the prebuild version to check for filters:
 - "Block all well known privacy trackers"
 - "Block all third party recources when in private browsing"

Additionally I see several ampersands (&) in the preferences, e.g. '&Filter preferences'.
