So, on Debian it is not need to add this line, but on Gentoo it is,
right?

Yes, I guess so. Presumably Gentoo is using a more aggressive linker setup ?

Anyway, leaving that line in the source code will make it work everywhere, so I would
leave it in on Debian as well ;-)
