This looks like a FreeBSD/ports problem with gcc and gcc-objc, not GNUstep.
Have you tried contacting the ports maintainer of GNUstep and/or gcc?

Summary: gnustep: libgcc needed ?!

Original Submission: Hello,
Libgcc is needed by the "ports" install precess (make install clean in
/usr/ports/devel/gnustep), i got the massage:
...
gmake[2]: Entering directory `/usr/ports/lang/gcc-objc/work/build/gcc'
./gengenrtl -h > tmp-genrtl.h
/usr/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object "libgcc_s.so.1" not found, required by
"gengenrtl"
gmake[2]: *** [s-genrtl] Error 1
gmake[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/ports/lang/gcc-objc/work/build/gcc'
gmake[1]: *** [stage2_build] Error 2
gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/ports/lang/gcc-objc/work/build/gcc'
gmake: *** [bootstrap-lean] Error 2
...

Well, I looked around to fix things but I'm a bit afraid to screw up the fresh
installation of freebsd that I did because I wanted to try Gnustep... (I'm new
to BSd and to gnustep)
Thanks a lot for any help.

Fabrice Dh.

You are building gcc at this point and not gnustep. Also what is the target
you are building for, FreeBSD?
