Newbie tries again

I tried to send a mail to the mailing list last monday,
but it seems to have dissappeared into nowhere.
So I will try again. Also if this is not the correct
place to post this, please let me know.

I am a GNUstep newbie ;-) and I tried gstep-core-0.6.6 last weekend.
And I have to say I am impressed on how far the GNUStep project
already is.

After playing a little with GWorkspace-0.1.2
I noticed a few GUI glitches.
One of them was the fact that the alpha component of images
was ignored. After setting

 NSGlobalDomain GraphicCompositing

I noticed that at my screen, 16bits colordepth, it looked awfull.
The source of the problem was in XGBitmap.m.
I have modified this file so that it works on my screen
(and fixed some bugs in other screendepths and orderings as well)

So my question. Is this already solved in the newer cvs versions?
If not, is anybody interested in the fix? If somebody is,
please speak up!

Second question.

While digging through the source in order to fix it I noticed
that the NSButtonCell class does things differently than
the Openstep implementation. As far as I can tell the Openstep
application draws a white semi-transparent layer over an active button.
While the GNUStep implementation draws a light background.
Was this done because transparancy did not work?
Or are there other reasons that it is done the way it is done now?

By the way, I am willing to spent time on GNUstep, but I do not
have large continues chunks of free time. So I would prefer to
do some minor bugfixes or help on a project.

Greetings,
Wim Oudshoorn.

P.S.: I do not have a personal internet connection, but use
the connection at work. This has the disadvantage that I
operate behind a Firewall. So in all likelyhood CVS is not
going to work. (But I haven't tried yet!)
