Thanks for volunteering.  Yes, this would be useful.
There are many implementations floating around.

Can you assign copyright to the FSF?
If so, it'd be good to get the process started.
You'd choose one of the reqest-* files here:

    git.sv.gnu.org/gitweb/?p=gnulib.git;a=tree;f=doc/Copyright;hb=HEAD

fill it out and send it.
