You don't need to "./configure && make && make dist" in a gnulib testdir;
it is sufficient to do "tar cvfhz tt.tgz tt". gnulib-tool generates all files
that "make dist" would generate.
If you have observed the contrary, please tell us: I would consider it a
gnulib-tool bug.
