These were a little more than Texinfo niglets:
Your definition and my definition obviously vary. Sorry.
American typography probably does it differently than European typography.
Indeed, spaces around dashes is an American/European difference.
(Sometimes I use thinspaces, but that's not feasible with Texinfo.)
(Sometimes "European" style puts ties in one place or the other, too.)
However, nothing else in Texinfo documents in general, or the Gnulib
document in particular, is typeset in European style, as far as I can
see, so the spaces seem out of place to me. However, I also don't care
to spend more time on it, so fine, whatever.
If you consider it important to emphasize that "GNU is not Unix",
I don't, but rms does. He's made a point of it several times.
I changed it to "GNU, Unix, and Windows". GNU first because it's a GNU
manual, and I can't see why they should be listed chronologically, or
that any reader would make the connection if they were. However, again,
I don't care that much, so if you want to reverse the order, feel free.
