If it's any help, I can tell you what libroken does; I suspect it's
emulating a BSD facility. (In case you don't know of it, roken is
like gnulib/libiberty in support of the Heimdal Kerberos
implementation <URL:ftp://ftp.pdc.kth.se/pub/heimdal/src/>.)
Perhaps gnulib doc could caution about using it to support a library,
especially since it doesn't have a stable/versioned interface.
