I can't reproduce this with current development version.
I assume you refer to "GnuCOBOL 1.1"?
In this case (where I still wonder why this happens) just wait for the
2.2rc (comes within the next days).
If not: please provide cobc --info && cobcrun --info together with a
minimal program and the command line used to invoke it.
