Nice to see that you and others are going to resurrect the macports version.

Regarding the last trac ticket there (#69996), updating to a 1.08 
version should indeed fix python detection.

In 2022 I had been contacted by someone who had built gnubg on a Mac 
(with the Homebrew framework rather than MacPorts but this shouldn't 
make much difference) and provided some macos-specific fixes for the 
sound effects. He noticed issues with the tutor mode as well but wasn't 
interested in investigating them.

You may want to check the last point (preferably after the port is 
updated).
