No, that is not necessary.
The Installation Archive of Øystein has a file 'gnubg.exe'. The new builds
replace that file. All changes (see 'changelog') are incorporated in the
last build.
When there are other changes (new board, new match equity tables, new...)
not included in Øystein's latest Installation Archive, they are available as
separate downloads, or included in the self-extracting file together with
the latest build (at the moment, the new 'boards.xml' is included in that
latest build archive).

Well... it is recommended to make a backup of gnubg.exe. It's possible a new
build has new bugs (or reveals old ones). It's nice to go back to the
previous one when that happens.
However, if you download the most recent build in a directory on your PC,
it's always possible to get back to the build that runned smoothly. That's
why those files have a yymmdd in the name.
