I've noticed this kind of behaviour under Windows 2000 also. one way
to get around it is to lower gnubg's priority. this should work for
both 2000 and XP:
1: right-click the task bar and choose "Task Manager"
2: select the "Processes" tab
3: if the process list isn't sorted, click on "Image Name" or "CPU" to
get it sorted. either way you'll find "gnubg.exe" either under
that name or as the process that consumes the most CPU.
4: right-click "gnubg.exe" and choose "Set Priority->BelowNormal"
5: answer "Yes" to the dialog you get.
