http://www.gnu.org/manual has an entry for gawk that 
points to http://www.gnu.org/software/gawk/manual.
(No question the Free Software Directory info was bogus, though.)

We have dreams of autogenerating various info about GNU packages, and
keeping the FSD in sync with reality, but it is a long process.
