    Why is this insufficient?

Paul explained.  Having a placeholder in the example, as he suggested,
so people at least have an explicit clue that they need to add something
would be good.  I hope you don't object to that much.

It is nothing new.  It is the standard "all-permissive" text promulgated
by rms for many years.  No one has ever raised compatibility questions.

    This problem was fixed on 2002-01-18 (gettext-0.11).
