Thanks a lot for this information. This means effectively that binaries
of GPLed or LGPLed programs, compiled with MSVC 7.0, cannot be distributed
without violating the GPL/LGPL: msvcr70.dll is not compatible with GPL/LGPL.
I used MSVC 7.0 for the gettext-0.13 binaries, as opposed to MSVC 6.0 for
the gettext-0.12.1 binaries; this explains the change for the Ethereal
program's users.
But now I'll have to remove the MSVC 7 built binaries from the ftp server,
and concentrate on mingw. You can distribute MSVC 6 built binaries instead,
if you've got the resources to build them.
