We are upgrading some old Linux boxes to the 2.4 kernel,
but in the meanwhile we are trying to protect them against
the resent resolver bugs in libc-5.4.46, as these are production
boxes and can't immediately be taken down without causing large
amounts of upset.
We have patched the libc.5.4.46 to deal with the resolver issues,
but notice that while installing it on our older machines running
5.4.43 that make 3.74 starts to SIGSEGV and core dump.
Later versions of make work fine, but we are wondering why
the upgrade from 5.4.33 to 5.4.46 would break make and if there
other things that might break as well.
Trying to upgrade to something newer as fast as we can,
but in the meanwhile, it would make us very happy just to patch
the present systems for a few weeks or so if possible.
Thanks Homer
