We could do something like

    (condition-case err
        (funcall compilation-parse-errors-filename-function filename spec-dir)
      (wrong-number-of-arguments
       ;; Try again with single arg for backwards compatibility.
       (funcall compilation-parse-errors-filename-function filename)))
