bug#7886: 24.0.50; Point in buffer moves when one does M-x

C-h i M-x compile<RET><RET>     (let the compile fail or whatever)
M-> M-x

At the last M-x, point jumps back to the beginning of the buffer for
some unknown reason.  Also tested with a Gtk+ build, it has the same behaviour.
