Good. But what was said was that "compile (and grep) require font-lock to
work". That's what my comment responded to.
If that is not true, then users are not deprived of important functionality -
they need only turn font-lock back off after it gets turned on automatically in
the compilation buffer. Annoying, but in that case we cannot say that grep and
compile will not work.
