save-place-forget-unreadable-files hangs on Windows NT

When executing save-place-forget-unreadable-files from saveplace.el it
hangs emacs. It even isn't possible to C-g.

emacs -q --no-site-file
M-x load-library saveplace <RET>
M-x save-place-forget-unreadable-files <RET>
==> hangs...
