I see this on Linux with the current stable 21.3 and the current cvs
version of gnu emacs (21.3.50.1).
I will forward your bug report to the author of recentf. Thanks.
Meanwhile, please note that Linux alone is not a sufficient platform
to run Emacs on. Linux is just a kernel, and you need an entire
operating system. Probably you are referring to a version of the GNU
system in which Linux is the kernel. In other words, to GNU/Linux.

Most of the users of this system don't know it is our work, and that
reduces our ability to recruit people today to do more work--incluing,
for instance, fix the bugs in Emacs that you encounter and report
here.
Would you please help us serve the public more, by calling the system
"GNU/Linux" rather than Linux, most especially when you post on
mailing lists? Thanks in advance.
