Yes, I'm trying to fix those problems.

Your suggestions are well taken, but unfortunately we lack volunteers to 
do all of that.  Maintenance of a Web page for a major package is a 
serious business, which, if done well, would probably consume free time 
of at least one person who does only that.  I have a very limited time to 
work on Emacs, and this weekend it was all taken by what I needed to do to 
prepare a release in a reasonably clean and tested manner.

So I agree it would be nice to have what you suggested, but someone will 
have to volunteer to make that happen.
