Hi,

I browsed several web pages looking for a good place to send this
bug/check if it was already reported and didn't find it. I did find this
email.

So here is my bug:

I am trying to edit the 3MB+ output of a perl script that I wrote. 90%
of the information in the output is stuff want for reference, and 10% is
stuff I have to act on, so I was going to create a second version of the
file by editing it in emacs, selecting the part I didn't want and
deleting it. (specifically, the section listing links on the site that
came back as 200 OK in the HTTP status of the response header when the
script asked for them and where to find them I don't need to fix them,
but it is nice to have an index of where they occur in case I want to
change/find them later).

Anyway, when I selected the OK's and hit the delete key I got the
following message, and emacs stopped responding, even to window close
via the button in the tittle bar.

The message:

timed out waiting for property-notify event

I reallize this is a pretty extreme case, and selections in excess of
2.5MB might not be worth supporting, but emacs probably ought to
identify the problem and politely refuse to do what was asked, rather
than crash, if it is not supported.

I am using:

- GNU Emacs 20.7.1 (i386-redhat-linux-gnu, X toolkit) of Mon Jul 30 2001
on Stripples.redhat.com
- Red Hat Linux, 7.2 upgraded to kernel 2.4.17-rmap12f
- Single Processor Pentium II 400 MHz

I hope this is of some use,
Gus
