[supercite thinks I'm RMS ... I'm not even R]

must be a emacs 21 thang.

# emacsclient /etc/fstab
emacsclient: can't find socket; have you started the server?

$ emacsclient ~/.emacs
Waiting for Emacs...

by the way, even with lynx, poking around savannah was slow
... particularity when the file I thought I was looking for had
changed its name... ok never mind that ...

anyways "glad to know that in emacs 21, emacsclient in a root window
can find emacs running as a regular......... hmmm, wait a second, lets
say bob and jim are both running emacs, how does root know which one
is supposed to get the connection?

And if saddam is the only user with emacs running, how do we know not
to connect to him?

obviously there must be an environment variable needing to be set or
something.
test `id -u` -eq 0 && export \
REGULAR_USER_ID_UNDER_WHICH_TO_SEARCH_FOR_EMACS_SERVER=bob
