Are you talking about this line:

     (run-string (format "%s %s 2> %s | %s bs=%d skip=%d %s 2> /dev/null"

If so, /dev/null is the least of your problems: it also assumes some 
shell features like "2>" redirection.  What OS are you using, and what is 
your default shell?
