Yes, i get this
[rafael@lamia src]$ ./emacs
bash: ./emacs: cannot execute binary file
[rafael@lamia src]$ ls -l emacs
-rwxr-xr-x    2 rafael   academic  6616058 Oct 23 12:58 emacs
[rafael@lamia src]$ file emacs
emacs: ASCII text, with no line terminators


sorry, what do you mean by "a local directory".
