Right, exactly -- except perhaps that I actually use Emacs under Linux :) :).
If you additionally load the cua-mode.el package, then you *can* use Ctrl-C
and Ctrl-X on highlighted regions. (If nothing is highlighted, then these
keys perform their usual Emacs duties).
