Display not updated

In GNU Emacs 20.7.1 (rs6000-ibm-aix4.3.3.0, X toolkit)
 of Tue Jan 30 2001 on polymer.watson.ibm.com
configured using `configure  --without-gcc --with-x-toolkit=athena 
--prefix=/usr/gnu'

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

I'm seeing an intermittent problem with appears to be a display update problem.

In transient mark mode, if I mark a region and then kill-ring-save (meta-w), I
do not see the point move to the top of the region and back, and the 
highlight face does not disappear.

I have verified that the mark has been deactivated.  A redraw-frame will
remove the highlight.

I'm not sure how to reproduce this.
