Menus don't work after resizing emacs

I noticed the following odd behavior for emacs 20.4 and emacs 20.7 under
HP-UX B.10.20 and SunOS 5.8:

When I resize emacs the menus don't work correctly anymore, I notify:
 - after making it smaller or bigger by dragging the top border the menus
   don't work at all
 - after making it smaller or wider by dragging the left border a click on
   one of the menus results in a different menu opening
i.e. seems there's no resize notify since emacs behaves as if the size hasn't
changed.

A drag of the title bar will cure this problem.

BTW there's no problem on my Linux machine.
