We wish.

I remember when it was the odd innocent poster who was off topic who
got flamed and these help groups were 90% useful traffic. Ah well,
the tragedy of the commons.

I installed GS 8.11 and print under foomatic-rip and foomatic-gswrapper with LPRng on Slackware 9.1 to a Canon 4100. I have tried to print from Netscape, Star Office, Abi Word, Ghostview, the command line, Applixware, GGV, and GIMP. I also have gimp-print installed but I have no way of knowing if it effects the printing of files except for GIMP itself. I installed a ppd file for the Canon in the spool directory. The printcap file "calls" foomatic from the if: and that must work. Here is what works and does not.

GIMP -- the graphics program in X works and prints files.

Abiword -- prints files with lpr -Pcanon

Applixware -- refuses to print, with any setting of the printer. I used
to have this printing in an older GS with lpr and aspi magic filter.

Star Office -- refuses to print with any setting. It used to print when
I set the output as LPD before upgrading ghostscript.

Gsview -- prints the file but will not print a fair number of postscript files, including any generated by Applixware or Star Office which are Postscript 3.0.

Command line: will print files with lpr -P canon, but will not print PS files generated by Star Office or Applixware.

Netscape -- refuses to print with command line queues given to print setup that works othewise. Also post script output of netscape saved to file will not print from command line.

I am wondering if this is a font problem?.. in that GS does not know about the fonts created by the wordprocessors.? GS was not compiled with
any knowledge of the wordprocessor's fonts locations. It is supposed to
substitute its own fonts if it cannot find the ones mentioned, but who
knows?
