Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
********************************

1) CAN YOU HELP IF I HAVE FORGOTTEN MY ACCESSID AND PASSWORD, OR IF I NEVER
RECEIVED THEM?

Yes, we can help you with that.

a) Unknown AccessID: You can look up your AccessID by going to our online
directory at http://support.wayne.edu/acctmanagement/ldap_search.php3. If you
need the password reset please call us during regular business hours.

b) Unknown Password: New students, new hires, and any student who has taken
classes in the last two years, but not yet activated their AccessID, currently
has their password set to their Personal ID (as printed on their WSU OneCards).
Please activate your AccessID by logging into http://pipeline.wayne.edu

c) Forgotten Password: We cannot reset passwords via e-mail due to privacy
concerns. If your challenge question is set and you know the answer, you can
reset your password at http://pipeline.wayne.edu and clicking on the "Forgot
your password? Click here" link. If you have not set your challenge question,
do not remember the password, or are locked out of Pipeline, please call us
during business hours.

2) CAN YOU HELP ME WITH QUESTIONS ABOUT ADMISSIONS, REGISTRATION OR FINANCIAL
AID?

The short answer, unfortunately, is no. We are computer support. We can help
you gain access to that information, but we do not have the ability to discuss
status, aid awards, holds or otherwise interpret the information.

a) Admissions: If you've received a letter from Admissions with your AccessID
and password, then you can track your application status. Log into
http://pipeline.wayne.edu and click on the application status graphic on the
right side of the page. For any further information about a current
application, please e-mail address@hidden or call 313-577-3577. To request
information about the University, please e-mail address@hidden or call
877-WSU-INFO.

b) Financial Aid: If you received a letter stating you've not activated your
AccessID e-mail and you have, do not be concerned. You cannot access WSU
Pipeline without having first applied for admission to the University. If you
have applied to the University and have not yet been informed of your AccessID,
please call us. Due to the private nature of student information, we will not
handle passwords over e-mail. If you have questions about your aid, please
contact Financial Aid at 313-577-3378.

c) Registration: If you are experiencing problems with registration itself,
please call the Registration & Scheduling help line at 313-577-3541. If you are
experiencing technical difficulties, please contact us at 313-577-4778.

3) I’M CONFIGURING MY E-MAIL CLIENT. WHAT ARE THE MAIL AND SMTP SERVERS?

- The POP/IMAP server is: mail.wayne.edu
- The SMTP server is: smtp.wayne.edu (Please remember that, if you are not on
WSU’s campus or using us for dial-in that you need to use your ISP’s SMTP
server (i.e., Comcast users will use smtp.comcast.net). Please contact your ISP
if you are unsure of what your SMTP server name is.)

5) CAN YOU STOP ALL THESE MESSAGES I GETTING? AM I INFECTED WITH A VIRUS? ARE
YOU?

We cannot stop all of the messages, though we do stop many of them from
reaching you. We suggest using filtering on WebMail or your e-mail client to
keep any undesired messages from your inbox. For spam messages (unsolicited
commercial e-mail), please see
http://support.wayne.edu/allwsu/email/spam/index.php for details.

In the case of viruses, more than likely neither you nor we are the ones
infected because many recent viruses (SoBig, Klez, Yaha, etc.) “spoof” the
“FROM:” line in the e-mail. We still HIGHLY suggest you update your anti-virus
software on all computers you use and run Windows Update or Software Update (on
a Macintosh) to download and install critical updates to your system software.
If you are a WSU student or employee please go to
http://support.wayne.edu/download and download Symantec AntiVirus and then
install and update it. If you already have an anti-virus product installed,
please ensure that it is up-to-date and that you've scanned your system
recently.

Again, thank you for contacting the C&IT Help Desk, and we will respond to you
as quickly as possible.
