VIEWBOOK AND APPLICATION
If you would like to receive a viewbook and application for first-year or
transfer admission, or would like information about visiting campus, please
complete our online viewbook and application request form at
https://webcenter.studentservices.tufts.edu/Admissions/Inquiry/uadm.asp. You
may also request an application by calling our office at (617) 627-3170. The
preferred method of applying to Tufts is through our online application
which can be found at http://apply.tufts.edu. (The online application is
for FIRST-YEAR ADMISSION only. Transfer applicants must complete our
transfer application which is available for download as a PDF at
http://admissions.tufts.edu/transfer.htm).

INFORMATION FOR FIRST-YEAR ADMISSION
The Tufts University first-year admissions application is the Common
Application. A Tufts Supplemental Form is required in addition to the
Common Application. The supplement may be found on our website from
September through January as a PDF at http://admissions.tufts.edu/apply.htm.
The preferred method of applying is through the Tufts online application
which may be found at http://apply.tufts.edu. The deadline for regular
decision is January 1 for the Supplemental Form and January 10 for the
Common Application. Students also may apply as an Early Decision candidate,
a program designed for those who have identified Tufts as their first choice
for university study. Two rounds of Early Decision are available with
deadlines as follows; the deadline for Early Decision Round I is November 15
and the deadline for Early Decision Round II is January 1.

Students are required to take the SAT I and 3 SAT II subject tests OR the
ACT. All candidates who are not submitting the ACT should submit the SAT
II: Writing Test. The remaining two subject tests are the candidate's
choice with the following recommendations. Students applying to the School
of Engineering, who are not submitting the ACT, should submit the Writing
Test, a physics or chemistry test, and a math level IC or IIC test. Students
applying to the College of Liberal Arts and considering a major in the
sciences or planning to prepare for medical, dental, or veterinary school
should submit a science and math SAT II in addition to the Writing Test.
Applicants whose first language is not English or who are not currently
attending a school where English is the language of instruction should
submit, in addition to the above, results of the Test of English as a
Foreign Language (TOEFL).

INTERVIEWS
Most first-year applicants to Tufts will have the opportunity for a personal
interview with a member of the local Tufts Alumni Admissions Program (TAAP).
Interviews offer applicants the opportunity to highlight their interests,
activities, and achievements. Interviews will be assigned AFTER THE
APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION HAS BEEN RECEIVED. Applicants will be contacted
directly by a TAAP member. Interviews for admission are conducted between
late October and early February. Although on-campus interviews with
admissions officers are not offered, campus visits are strongly encouraged.
Unfortunately, Tufts is unable to provide transfer students with the
opportunity to interview.

FINANCIAL AID
Financial aid at Tufts is need based. There is no merit or athletic aid.
Financial aid to entering students is usually awarded with some combination
of grants, loans, and jobs. The total amount each student receives yearly
is determined by financial need as estimated by Tufts from the Financial Aid
PROFILE of the College Scholarship Service, the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA), and family tax returns. Information on applying for
aid and how to access the required forms can be found at
http://finaid.tufts.edu.

INFORMATION FOR TRANSFER ADMISSION
Transfer applications are accepted for both fall and spring transfer. We do
not, however, accept applications from students in their first semester of
college. Such students should plan to complete a full year at their present
college and apply to Tufts for September or January of the following year.
Students who have been unsuccessful in their application to Tufts are
eligible to reapply; however, one full year must elapse between the filing
of each application. Tufts is unable to activate old applications. If you
applied in a prior academic year you should resubmit all required materials.
In order to receive a Tufts degree, transfer students must complete two
years in residence at Tufts.

The deadline for fall transfer applications is March 1. The deadline for
spring transfer applications is November 15. Transfer applicants should
submit a paper transfer application (an on-line application is not available
for transfer applicants). You may either request an application form to be
sent via mail or you may access a PDF of the transfer application on the
admissions website. Transfer applicants are asked to submit results from
the SAT I test, but are not required to take the SAT II subject tests.

Additional information regarding transfer admission may be found at
http://admissions.tufts.edu/transfer.htm. The transfer application may also
be downloaded from this site.

INFORMATION FOR GUEST STUDENTS
Students attending other colleges who wish to enrich their experience by
studying at Tufts for one or two semesters may apply as guests. Guest
students are expected to enroll in a full-time academic program and to
return to their home college at the end of their stay at Tufts. Guest
applicants do not need to submit a high school record, but they must submit
a college transcript and a statement of reason for wishing to attend Tufts.
Financial assistance is not available for guest students. To obtain a Guest
student application, please fill out our on-line inquiry form at
https://webcenter.studentservices.tufts.edu/Admissions/Inquiry/uadm.asp.
Guest applicants should request the application for transfer admission.
Guest applicants may download the transfer application from
http://admissions.tufts.edu/transfer.htm. Additional information for
prospective guest students may also be found at
http://admissions.tufts.edu/transfer.htm.

INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
All students applying to Tufts, regardless of citizenship, need to file both
the Common Application and the Tufts Supplemental Form. The standardized
testing requirements are the same as those outlined in the Information for
First-Year Admission above with one addition. We recommend that students
who are currently in a school where the language of instruction is not
English submit the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test as
should those students for whom English is not the first language. The TOEFL
will be used in concert with the SAT I and SAT II's or the ACT.

Tufts benefits from a strong international student presence. There are
limited funds for talented international students at the university. Each
year Tufts can offer admission to only a very small number of international
applicants seeking aid and, as a result, the selection process for this
segment of the applicant pool is rigorous. These scholarships will be
available to assist students with up to the cost of tuition; students and
their families must have resources available to pay for living expenses for
a twelve-month period. Families who have the ability to fund the entire
educational expenses should not apply for financial aid.

Scholarships for foreign students will be based on computed need and the
special talents and experience students will bring to the University. If
you apply for aid, the Office of Financial Aid will determine if you have
need according to its uniform method of need analysis. Awards will consist
of grant and the possible eligibility for an on-campus job. Finally, with or
without financial assistance, Tufts expects that students and families must
realistically plan for contributing to their educational expenses. Students
applying for financial assistance may obtain the necessary application from
our website at http://admissions.tufts.edu/apply.htm by following the link
for "International Students".

VISITING CAMPUS
Group orientation meetings, conducted by an admissions officer, are a
valuable introduction to Tufts. Admissions officers cover academic
opportunities, campus life, study abroad, resources in Boston, housing,
admissions policy, financial aid and much more within the one-hour time
period. A schedule of group orientation meetings can be found at
http://admissions.tufts.edu/visit.htm.

Reservations for group orientation meetings are strongly encouraged. You
may sign-up for an orientation meeting by calling the Office of
Undergraduate Admissions at (617) 627-3170. Upon arriving at Tufts,
visitors should check-in with the receptionist in Bendetson Hall.

Campus tours, led by a current student, are offered following each group
orientation meeting (availability may be limited during reading period,
finals, and winter or spring breaks). Taking a one-hour tour is an excellent
way to view Tufts' facilities and landscape, as well as learn more about
Tufts from a student's perspective. A schedule of tour times can be found at
http://admissions.tufts.edu/visit.htm. If a disability prevents you from
climbing stairs, please contact the admissions office prior to your visit so
that we may accommodate your needs.
