Joining multiple documents

Hi Folks
I am new to this list and to ghostscript

I have been succesfully printing documents to a Post script printer 'print'
file and then using 
ghostscript to convert ps 2 pdf.

All is well, however when I try to combine multiple
doccccuments/spreadsheets I get stuck - I have tried to join the print files
and then ps2pdf, but it does not work with joined files.

I have resorted to using Exchange to open main pdf and insert additional
pages where needed.

Can anyone advise me if this can be done with ghostscript, ghostview or
another allied product?
I wold like to do the whole lot in open source.

I am using MS word and Excel 97 documents in the main on a Win 98 O/S
