Hello again guys,

I would like to thank all of you for your very quick and expedited response
about my problem. It makes me happy to see this kind of dedication to
the GNU project. I've brought updating Gawk and the entire server as
a whole to my server administrator and hope that happens soon.

I also appreciate the advice with the character classes and locales!

Thanks again for all the help, cheers,
Christo Mavrick

Hi.

Thanks for taking the time to submit a report.

Andy's comments are on target - you are seeing an issue related to
locales wherein ranges like [A-Z] can match lowercase characters as
well.  This is described in the current manual. See:

        https://www.gnu.org/software/gawk/manual/html_node/Ranges-and-Locales.html

Starting at gawk 4.0, this is no longer a problem; upgrading to the
current version is an excellent idea. (Gawk 3.1.4 is almost 16 years old!)

Thanks,

Arnold
