Subject: | [bug-gawk] A CSV Standard |

Hi, I believe I am commenting in the right place based upon the manual and have searched the mailing archive for this topic but it doesn’t seem to have come up. Footnote 24 and section 4.7 refer to there not being a CSV standard as far as you know. While as we all know it is not one that everyone adheres to (to say the least), there is in fact such a standard in the form of RFC 4180, which was essentially reverse engineered to be what Excel does, and consequent to it being written there have been various libraries in most languages implementing it. I am not suggesting any changes to GAWK but this could maybe be noted in the footnote of the (excellent) manual. Cheers, David Jordan |
